Mrs. Haynie's 6th Grade
WELCOME STUDENTS
6th Grade Expectations
Welcome to a new school year and 6th grade! Remember that school starts on Monday, August 30. In preparation for 6th grade and a return to in person learning in the classroom, I realize that many of you may have some anxiety about returning in person, so do I. I have included some important information for you all as we start off the year. I hope this will help to alleviate some of your fears and anxiety. The most important thing you need to know about my class is that my classroom is a reading classroom. You will be required to read every night. You will fill out a reading log each day for what you have read for homework. I look forward to sharing lots of texts with you this year as we progress through 6th grade together. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you over the next couple of weeks!
CLASSROOM RULES - These rules are posted in all three 6th grade classrooms, and are expected to be followed during the school day.
- Come to class prepared
- Listen and follow directions
- Raise my hand to talk
- Respect teachers, classmates and school property
- Keep my area clean
- Remain seated, and keep my hands and feet to myself
- Take responsibility for my own learning
- Respect deadlines and turn my work in on time
- NO snacks in class!
- Be kind, and courteous, and HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
- Students are expected to be on time to class and in uniform. Students who are late to class are expected to have a signed pass explaining why they are late in order to be admitted to class. If you arrive after Homeroom, PLEASE DO NOT STOP at your homeroom, but continue to your scheduled class and turn in the tardy slip to that teacher.
- Students are expected to come to class prepared to learn and with their supplies. Supplies are as follows: folders, composition books (NO SPIRALS), pens, pencils, loose-leaf paper, and a book for silent reading.
- Students are expected to enter the class in an orderly manner and sit in their seats.
- Students are expected to stay in their seats during class unless otherwise instructed.
- Students are expected to raise their hand in order to be heard.
- Students are expected to do QUALITY work.
- All work for class is to be turned in ON TIME.
- Students are expected to do their homework EVERY day.
- Papers handed in without a name will not be graded.
Students will have MULTIPLE days in class to work on projects. Due dates for projects are posted early, giving ALL students ample opportunity to complete work at home if they did not have sufficient time in class to complete each part. Dates for upcoming quizzes and tests are also posted days before the actual event in order to give students time to study at home. If you are absent the day of a test or quiz, it is your responsibility to make it up. It is your responsibility to check for this information and make arrangements with the teacher for a makeup time.
Assignments from each student will be collected on the day they are due. We do not accept Late Work.
DO-OVERS ARE ALLOWED. You may redo most assignments or tests/quizzes if you are not happy with your grade on it. This includes missing work for an absence. Please make sure to check with your teacher for instructions before re-doing an assignment.
Parent Expectations:
In order for your child to be successful this year in 6th grade, we ALL have to work together.
- PLEASE reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions.
- PLEASE register for ALL of your child’s teachers’ websites so you can have up-to-date information. (https://www.efyounges.com/)
